District Development Day

District Development Day Our District Development Day held at the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre had something on offer for everyone. The day started at 9.00am with Gary Barclay giving our District coaches tips that he has gained from his years of experience in swimming.

This was followed with our district swimmers enjoying two hours in the pool going through drills, starts, turns and stroke assistance. The focus for this session was Breaststroke and Butterfly, this gave our coaches the opportunity to ask Gary questions and receive guidance and feedback on the running of the pool session.

Swimmers also had the opportunity of practising the Backstroke to Breaststroke turn in an Individual Medley. At the completion of the pool session, Swimmers, parents, and coaches joined Gary for an education session on the Non-negotiables of training, the pathway for swimmers and what parents can do to help, this was followed by an open question and answer session.

We also had a couple of parents take their first step into the role of Officiating, this was a great opportunity for these parents to get up close, watch the swimmers and receive guidance on what to look for when performing the roles of Judge of Stroke and Inspector of Turns.

Thank you to all those that attended for helping to make this a great day and to Swimming Victoria for providing valuable opportunities to upskill swimmers, coaches, and officials.
